Hotel Montecodeno - Varenna

Great location just five minutes from the ferry.

The shower was cramped with a clingy curtain. The WiFi was unreliable, limiting our ability to use the smart TV. The breakfast options were limited, mostly just pastries and cakes.

Family run and "Mom" spoke perfect English and helped you with whatever you needed. She arranged train tickets for customers and gave excellent suggestions of things to do. Everyone was warm and friendly and "Dad" was an outstanding chef. Breakfast was the very generous, low cost and high quality .

The bathroom was very tiny and had a bidet which was unnecessary and placed so that you had to climb over it to use the stool. I am short and using the stool required putting my feet into the shower. Removing the bidet would remedy that!

I loved the friendly staff, great location and wonderful breakfast.free parking was a great bonus. Every thing was perfect.

During my recent business trip, I found the location to be quite strategic, just a short walk from the ferry port and train station. The breakfast selection was impressive for such a small establishment, with decent options that kept me fueled for the day. the room size left much to be desired, feeling cramped with limited space to maneuver, and lacked cold running water during my stay, which was quite inconvenient. it was affordable for the area, but definitely some room for improvement.

Family owned and run hotel. Very helpful personnel and good value for money. Hotel was very well located, about 10 minutes walk from railway station and about 5 minutes walk from ferry.

Marina and the entire Castelli family were warm and gracious. The chef prepares delicious meals! We enjoyed the family atmosphere and the warm hospitality making our stay in Varenna very enjoyable! Enjoy the "Rick"Steves" fixed-price meal!

Ask for local dining recommendations. The staff's suggestions can lead you to hidden culinary gems in the area.

i have to mention the light breakfast with cheese, excellent coffee. the location is marvellous and lovely, not very far from churhc of san giorgio.

The owners / staff were wonderful people - very helpful and kind. Marina's English is very good. The hotel facilities were good but dated, about what you would expect for this type of hotel. Everything was clean, there was lots of hot water, the wifi worked well, the bed was good, and the hotel restaurant had great food. The location was convenient to the waterfront, restaurants, and the ferry dock.

Steps - there's no lift in the hotel. Noise - it's on the main street and there is noise. This is a small town so it's not like constant traffic, just the occasional truck or motorbike (starting at 6:00).

The comfortable bed was a highlight . The location was perfect for exploring nearby towns.

The staff was extremely helpful and the location was within walking distance of the ferry and train.

The bathroom had quite a bit of mold in the shower and on the curtain. The room facing the street was noisy.

A small hotel where the owners are always there. The owners and the rest of the staff are very friendly and efficient. Not luxury but very clean perfectly adequate accommodations. Highly recommended.

The breakfast was nice and the owner was busy making us coffees of all sorts. We loved the simple but cozy vibe of the hotel

Nothing - exept location

I really did not like the staff. Lucia in the reception should find herself another job. She should learn to give service and make guests feel welcome. I did not se her smile at all. I will never ever recomend this hotel to anyone!

All in all everything was superb, had a pleasant stay during my visit. The breakfast was light with excellent coffee, juice, cheese to choose from. This hotel was located in a central area just next door to a ferry, and the medieval castle and the open air restaurant there...
